The Scourge of Clickbait

Headlines seen on Facebook today:

"Admit It, You're Only Pretending to Like These 23 Things" (Huffington Post)

"Restaurant Watches Video Footage On Customers And Uncovers Shocking Truth" (SF Globe)

"I Can't Believe How Funny This Is. I Am In Tears, Make Sure Your Sound Is Turned On!" (some random blog about pets)

I did not click on any of these links, and I'm certainly not going to. Clickbait is a shitty practice that I wish would die out, but so long as the ad-based revenue model for most sites continues, it's here to stay. Still, at least there are helpful services such as the Twitter account Saved You A Click to minimise unwanted clickage. (As an aside, one thing that really cheeses me off about these headlines is the inappropriate use of capitalisation for a conversational-style title. AP style would be far more appropriate here.)

What are some of the most egregious examples of clickbait you've seen recently?

I curate, and I curate, and I curate...but the bastards keep on sneaking through into my FB feed. What's more, the trojan horses for these hoplite horror shows are apparently friends! Good grief.

"You'll never believe what THIS is!" - Weather.com
(It's clearly a spider, also why are you showing spider videos on weather.com?)

Edit: Jesus Christ, Weather.com.

(Blame the main funding models for online content... because then the articles would only exist for malware sites.)
