It's gone... completely.

Take a look.

I hadn't been over there for ages, but it's still sad; the end of an era, and the reason most of us are friends now.

The plot thickens: IGN's reviews editor Dan Stapleton (IGN owns 1up now, remember) claims this is just a glitch. Let's hope so; it would be disappointing for the site to just be pulled with no fanfare.

1up homepage seems to be back. The old Squad club page is still down though.

Edit: Unless you know the mega-clunky URL.

You can't post on the forums, not that you would really want to. I've sort of already turned the page on 1up.

We all did a long time ago -- around the time of the stuff with UGO, pre-IGN. It would still be a shame to see the archives go kaputt, though, since that was where we were born.

What does ign plan to do with 1up? I kinda wish they would relaunch it and take a hands off approach, although that's a pipe dream. Speaking of which, when's the last time anyone went to ign.com of their own volition? As in, were not linked to an article from an outside but rather typed in the url themselves.

Just surveyed the site and boards for the first time in perhaps years.

What a different time it was back then. It was all a melting pot for creativity and expression. The 1up personalities were right there with us, taking us seriously as a community. The platform was there for countless sub communities and cultures such as our own to bust out and make a name for ourselves. Our squaresigs were like our gang jackets, declaring to all the new blood that there was a gang of intelligent folks willing to cut through the rabble and get down to the heart of the discussion. Somehow it all destabilized, even before the UGO business. Wasn't it fun though?

I do feel like a Pict, wandering north of Solway Firth and hearing by scarce inference the glory of the 1up Empire, a place of fora and discussion.

The Squawkbox felt akin to a Justinian Byzantium, still burning bright the flames of discourse - though in diminished population.

And now, with any luck, the Renaissance.

That website sure was an ugly piece of shit, though, to look at, as well as use.
