Turok: Dinosaur Hunter on Abandonia

by asatiir » Sun Aug 31, 2014 4:46 pm

Oh look, we've hit 100 topics!

http://www.abandonia.com/games/658/Turo ... Hunter.htm

Time and time again I've been meaning to dive in this oddball of a shooter of an older (and weirder) time. Now it seems to be abandonware, so it is easier to obtain.

Really? Damn, I played that old thing back in the N64 days. Or maybe it was the sequel... Regardless, had no idea it was on anything but N64, so thanks for the heads up!

I was vaguely aware the first two games were on PC. Is that link even compatible with modern Windows? Might need to give it a shot.

I recall it was one of the first games that required 3DFX or some such. Curious title, that first one. Played much more Seeds of Evil, which felt closer to the Quake 2 home, but the original? A good sense of mystery and adventure. Strange vibe.

Would love a modern Turok. Not a Space Marine Turok, but one of exploration like Dinosaur Hunter.

I tried it the other day, it gave me an error for not having some graphic dll of some sort but worked anyway. I'm not sure if you can fix any of the graphical settings or remap controls, but it does work on newer systems.

We are LOVING monster hunter over in these parts. 45 minute long fights with Barroths and Lagiacra are scratching that dino-killing itch I didn't know I had. I don't know how long it will be until the fever passes, but for now it's certainly what's for breakfast on the household's new WiiU.

BRUH. https://doom64ex.wordpress.com/2014/05/ ... x-updates/

The guy who made DOOM64 EX (that PC fan remake of DOOM 64 I hope you've heard of), is doing a modernized fan remake of Turok 1.

The Turok 1 remaster project apparently got picked up by Night Dive. Work on it will resume later this year. http://techraptor.net/content/interview ... powerslave

He's doing Powerslave right now.

Neato. Night Dive have been doing a good job of resurrecting old games, including System Shock 2, I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream and numerous others. It's in good hands.
