Call of Pripyat is less linear and somewhat more open-worldy, still segmented into zones but allowing more exploration and freedom of movement, and with AI ecosystems that accommodate it. Arguably the "best game" in the series as they had really nailed down the STALKER experience and managed to combine the best aspects of the previous games alongside some long sought after features. Two attempts later it's kind of how Shadow of Chernobyl was originally envisioned before it was gutted.
Are you skipping Clear Sky? Certainly had issues, but also some of my favourite parts of the series and lots of backstory.
