Sins of the Fathers: The Gabriel Knight Series

Some quick reconnaissance from Private Timmy reveals that the 20th anniversary remake of Gabriel Knight is now available -- so what better time to jump in to one of the Squad's favourite adventure game series, particularly if you've never had the pleasure?

The remake is the work of Phoenix Online Studios, who have been one of the driving forces in the modern adventure game scene, and original writer Jane Jensen's Pinkerton Road studio, previously responsible for the rather Gabriel Knight-esque Moebius. Phoenix Online Studios' work -- including King's Quest follow-up The Silver Lining, the Cognition series and the aforementioned Moebius -- is typically solid and enjoyable but occasionally a little clunky in places, though their heart is always in the right place. I'm very interested to see how their remake of one of my favourite adventures compares to the original, particularly as the changing times means that the whole thing -- featuring one of the most iconic voice casts of the '90s adventure game scene -- has had to be recast.

Will it be great or will the original remain the ultimate Schattenjaeger? Who knows. Time to find out. Suit up!
